Paul was Associate Director of English Pocket Opera Company (2012-2020), directing productions of Bartok’s “Bluebeard’s Castle” and Verdi’s “Macbeth” at Central St. Martins, working with their student designers.
He devised and led the touring workshop productions “Opera Quest” and “The History Of Western Classical Music (Part 1)” as well as a project on Humperdinck’s “Hansel & Gretel” in schools in the London borough of Brent.
He directed Mozart’s “Cosi fan tutte” for Pimlico Opera’s 2001 UK tour (including the Royal Opera’s Linbury Studio),
Krenek’s “Jonny Strikes Up” for Music Theatre Scotland as part of the 1990 Glasgow Jazz Festival and European City of Culture programme,
Menotti’s “The Consul”, Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Mozart & Salieri’ and Menotti’s “The Medium” & “The Telephone” for the Glasgow Opera Group,
Peter Shaffer’s “Amadeus” for the Kilmardinny Theatre Group.
At the University of Glasgow, he was President of the Student Theatre Group and directed productions of Edward Bond’s “Lear” and Joe Orton’s “The Ruffian On The Stair”.
For the Great Western Theatre Company, he directed Georg Buchner’s “Woyzeck”, Edward Bond’s “Lear” and Beaumarchais’ “The Barber Of Seville”.
He also worked as an Assistant Director at Scottish Opera and the Glasgow Citizens Theatre.
